Wilhelmsthal Palace is situated on the road from Eisenach to Bad Salzungen. Nearby the Rennsteig hiking and cycling trail takes you to the "Hohe Sonne" stop.

Built from 1712 to 1715 as summer residence for the dukes of Eisenach, the buildings had been adapted to contemporary tastes for three centuries. Today's palace park was originally designed by Hermann Prince of Pueckler-Muskau.
